What to Expect

Quick & Comfortable

Most ultrasound exams take 15 to 45 minutes.

Simple Preparation

Minimal preparation is required. You may be asked to drink water or fast depending on the type of exam.

During Your Exam

A technologist will apply gel to the area being examined and move a small probe over your skin to capture images.

Do I Need a Referral?

Yes.

A referral from your healthcare provider is required for all ultrasound examinations.

Exam Preparation

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing; you may be asked to change into a gown.

  • For abdominal scans, please fast for 8 to 12 hours before your exam.

  • For pelvic scans, drink 32 ounces of water 1 hour prior to arrive with a full bladder.

  • Bring your provincial health card and the requisition from your doctor.

  • Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork.
